On The Road West

Day 1:  Happy St Patrick’s Day! Almost 400 miles, camped in luxury at the Crestview Walmart off I-10 just north of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  So, does that make us smart … or frugal … or “trailer trash”?   🙂  It definitely makes the very FIRST time we’ve stayed at Walmart on this cross country adventure … but definitely not our last.

Enroute to “The Big Easy” … aka New Orleans … David wanted to make the most of our time chowing on gumbo, soaking up the ambiance (aka people watching) and listening to jazz …. so we drove 50 miles farther than we planned.  That’s an HOUR in travel-speak when you tow a Lance 1685 with an old Toyota 4 Runner.   🙂  Another hour to enjoy New Orleans?  Sounds good to me.   Only one Walmart camping photo — just wasn’t photogenic enough to qualify for multiple photos.

Walmart benefited too since we bought groceries, “stuff” and a vacuum cleaner for the trailer.  Win win!  Several others have decided to take advantage of this Walmart’s hospitality … including a couple of semi trucks, a toyhauler with two Harley motorcycles returning from Daytona Bike Week and an Airstream trailer.   We’re in good company!

Do you enjoy hanging out at Walmart?  We met some nice people tonight.  Leave a comment and share your Walmart camping experiences.  Cheers!  Jan & David
