Shake Rattle & Roll: The Road to Chaco Canyon

Getting to and from Chaco Canyon (Chaco Culture Historical Park) is half the fun.  So this post is devoted to the shake rattle and roll on the trip up to the Gallo Campground, Chaco Canyon.  We were the only travel trailer … maybe that’s a testimonial to the structural integrity of Lance travel trailers!  What an amazing experience.

One hour + in … 22 miles once we turned off of Hwy 550 … we were warned that we could not take our Lance travel trailer up to the campground in Chaco.  Then the Lance Owners Forum recommended we go for it … after all Lance trailers are well constructed, one piece frame, no welded components…   We debated and debated then called the Ranger Station at Chaco, and assured of good weather and decent road  (505) 786-7014 ext. 221… we went for it…

Enjoy & stay tuned for photos of our 3 nights and 4 days in Chaco Canyon … Did I mention … AMAZING!!!  Cheers!  Jan

There's an Express gas station/convenience store just before the turn off to CR7900 if you're coming from the south (Albuquerque)

Turning off on CR 7900, dirt, but not too bumpy.

Turning CR 7950, and reaching the sign that said no more county maintenance ... then the game changed a bit.

Very scenic, lots of livestock ... it was great going slow!

And stopping now and again to stop our teeth from shaking...

Then the bumps turned to ruts ... and then back to washboard, but never something 5- 15 mph can't conquer... I'm sure we were the slowest ever....

We Made it!  So good to see pavement just before the entrance to Chaco Culture Historical Park!   🙂
